Hey everyone!
Thanks for the continuing support over the past few months despite my relative lack of communication. Both books have continued to sell steadily and I am back to regularly working on Book 3 (tentatively titled "Bones of the Dragon").
Getting through Covid-19 and all the restrictions has been a tough time for everyone. I've had to learn how to better deal with my depression and anxiety, both of which were cranked up to new levels of difficulty. There were multiple days in the past 15 months where simply getting through was a real struggle. Fortunately, with the help of my family and friends, I'm doing well today.
In the past three months, I've gone back through the first two books, taking notes for Bones. There are so many little details that I'd forgotten that needed to be addressed. I've also gone through the first 14 chapters of Bones, revising and even writing a few new sections.
Most of my time has been spent researching and writing backstories for new characters (particularly two new faeries), as well as expanding on the stories of some of the existing characters (especially Grandpa Gad and the sinister Manafe).
In the past two weeks, I've focused on the book's climax, which will set up the fourth and final book of Miguel's story. As the climax has built, many other pieces have snapped into place. Hopefully, I'll have enough time this summer (I am coaching every day for seven weeks!) to write most of the remaining story. I'm trying to write each storyline separately. Where the first two books each had three storylines, Bones has four. Keeping them all straight and working together involves a great deal of planning and note keeping.
Today, it's back to getting Book 3's title straight in my head. What is important about dragon bones? Are they as literal as dragon blood was in Book 1 or are they symbolic as the dragon's heart was in Book 2? Or some of both? I finally know the answer clearly: after several days of research, it's time to put it down on paper! Hint: the picture is a clue!
